Ledgertimate Tribute
Tuesday, 25 August 2009

Heath Ledger died before completing a few things in his lifetime, one of them was the concept to a video for Modest Mouse's, "King Rat" single.
"Ledger was formulating a concept for the video to accompany Modest Mouse’s single, “King Rat”, after meeting lead singer Isaac Brock in Australia three years ago. It was to highlight the illegal whale hunting being carried out off the Australian coast with proceeds from sales of the video going to a conservation charity. After Ledger’s death, Daniel Auber took over the directing duties, and the result - a sketchy, jaunty Moby Dick’s revenge - is a fittingly dark and intriguing tribute."

Kiss Of Life

A band I have been been feeling for a while even before knowing their name. Friendly Fires have just released a video for their upcoming single, "Kiss of life".
If you're not up on them, I suggest you go out and purchase their soon to be old (in terms of release date) album as they are prepping to drop a new one. I had the pleasure of seeing them live at this year's Lovebox festival in Victoria Park, East London and all I can say is, I felt like asking Pharrell and his N.E.R.D cronies for a refund for the time I spent watching their very flat performance.
This band is definitely going places and FAST! Check out the song that shut their set down at Lovebox below.

One of the hardest working producers, well the only producer I know. John "Chef" Okello recently remixed the BEP's song, "I got a feeling" and it's clocking up quite a lot of views on youtube.Take a listen to it below and in addition to that check out his Youtube profile where you will find his Kelly Rowland and David Guetta, Lil Jon and Swizz Beatz remixes.
The Chef is starting to heat things up.

Bonkers is still getting played everywhere but we’re already hearing about his next single ‘Holiday’ set for release on 24th August. Everyone’s claiming exclusivity on showing the video but I’ve been seeing it all over the place since last week!!
Dizzee got a bit of a shock (or pleasant surprise, which ever way you look at it) while filming the video for 'Holiday' in sunny Ibiza when some randoms gate-crashed the shoot thinking the
y were attending a sex party. I’m assuming a couple of girls draped in baby oil and tight bikinis were expected for the shoot, but these uninvited guests were ready for a different type of action in rubber pieces and allsorts of fetish gear!Apparently unbeknown to Dizzee and his entourage, the video shoot location is a well known area for hosting a variety of sex parties and pornographic movies.
Before heading out for the shoot, Dizzee claimed that “There's going to be a few ladies making an appearance. But it's going to be done in a classy way”…
Okay then!

I got invited to be in the video but I had to decline as all my skimpy bikinis were in the wash…

Single by Mr. Hudson whose album is coming this month.
And in my opinion, this is another example of Kanye West properly using Autotune. I think it sounds amazing.

Whorington favorite CurT@!n$ has just dropped a brand new video, and of course, it is dope as hell. Nice to see more material being put out, as he also has a new mixtape coming out pretty soon.

I posted this mixtape awhile back ... (here) and simply put, it is AMAZING.
Recently I learned there is also a short film series that goes along with it. I'm liking it even more.

Hype Williams videos are always about big pimpin' and the 'Blame It' video emphasises just that! I heard this track a while back and found myself dancing along to it without realising so I knew that this would be a better single than 'Just Like Me' [although it featured T.I no one really cared!].
Okay, so this video shocked the hair off my face [I currently look like the girl in The Ring....essay stress...don't ask...]. It may look like a music video but it isn't....I think it's a peep into what happens at the Oscar afterparties.
"...And the award for the most multiple-award winners in one music video goes to.....JAMIIEEEEE FOOOOOOOOOXX!"
The video starts off with the eponymous 'Hype Williams' tag so everyone will probably jizz...then a Rolls Royce pulls up into the frame and this is where everyone blows their wig.....guess who is driving....
JAKE GYLLENHAAL?!
Who's riding shotgun.....
FOREST bloomin' WHITAKER!!!
Who's chillin' in the back with Jamie Foxx.......[drum roll]....actually I won't ruin it...it's THAT SHOCKIIIIIIIIIIIING!!! I will give you a hint: He used to act in a popular sitcom alongside a guy in a cool jacket and now he makes movie gold......I think the dude was ALSO as shocked as me because his wig blew off a long time before the video even started...hahaha! From now on I will refer to him as anonymous...
Anyways....this anonymous shock element is a G! He's a serious G! I give him ratings for appearing in this video...he's so out of place that he will make many 'no homo' hip hop heads forget that Jake Gyllenhaal was brokebackin' it all over that mountain!!! The 'anonymous dude' does this by ignoring the hip hop dress code of mean muggin' and instead does a nerdy eyebrow twitch at the viewer as if he was saying, "Helloo - tonight, I'm playing a 'G'!"He also does the obligatory 'raising a glass of champers to the camera' move which cracked me up LOL!!! [Enter the anonymous dude's name here] I salute you.
But that's not all folks.....SAMUEL L. JACKSON is puff-puff-passin' with some vide-hos in the back of the club!!! This video is like some weird dream....which may be the whole reason behind the video. The chorus lyrics, 'Blame it on the alcohol...', indicate that Hype wanted to show how even the most respected names in the business like to get all liquered up and high with some booty-clappin' vide-hos .......Samuel L. is THE most convincing. I can tell he parties on a regs!
Here is a list of other people I spotted (there's probably more that I didn't notice):
Morris Chestnut
Bill Bellamy
Cedric the Entertainer
That dude from Usher's 'Caught Up' video and the movie, 'Ray'
and QUINCY 'friggin' JONESSSSS!!!!!
Good Points: The red room effect which I thought emphasised 'the results after chemical processes' theme....oscar winners + alcohol....get it....dahwell
The facial expression 'anonymous dude' makes when he steps out the car...priceless
Bad Points: The appearance of a BIGGGGG white label on Gyllenhaal's scarf!!!!! Eurgh! I hate when people don't take tags of scarves! That is my PET HATE!!!
The randomination of famous people and no real reason to back such randomness is also annoying

Chester French

Dropped their first music video a few days ago. It's for the song "She loves everybody".
They call themselves a hip pop band and are signed to Pharrell's Star Trak label. To be honest, I don't know a whole lot about them apart from the fact that one of them is "married" to Peaches Geldof and they canceled their UK tour dates due to poor ticket sales.
Have we got any Chester French fans out there?

Really loving this video. And according to reports, parts of the video was shot at Kanye's house.

Some of you weren't lucky enough to catch the first shot of this months ago. I know I wasn't and was dying to see it. After watching it EIGHT times in a row, I am convinced ... this is the best video from GRaduation. |
