Lets Journey To Yesterday

The hippopotamus at the Zoological Gardens, Regent's Park, London, 1852, from Points of View: Capturing the 19th Century in Photographs. Photograph: Don Juan Carlos, Duke of Montizon/The British Library.

Later this year, October to be precise, the British library will be exhibiting some rare photographs of Britain and other parts of the world from the 19th and early 20th century.

Pictures to be included in the show will be the building of Nelson's column, a hippo in Reagent's park London, the construction of the central line and many more.

The picture that strikes me the most has to be the construction of the central line, possibly my favourite of all the London tube lines. The image stands as a testament to the technological advancement of not just the Victorians but the things which can be made possible by the amazing human mind.

The show is free and even if it wasn't I would still be as stoked as I am now. In all honesty, I cannot wait for this. Do yourself a favour and go marvel at these small glimpses of time frozen in stills forever.

The Pretender

Monday, 6 July 2009

"Char-la-tan

–noun

A person who pretends to more knowledge or skill than he or she possesses; quack."

That dictionary definition could not be furthest from the truth when talking about this Charlatan.

The brain child of Micheal Trapster and all round doing it all girl, Gemma Kane. The line is exclusively for the ladies and here's what the brains behind it say about it.

"Charlatan began life early 2009, catering to the young, intelligent, outspoken, forward thinking, fashion and culture orientated girls worldwide. Girls that are doing their thing. Girls that aren’t afraid to push the boundaries.

We Charlatan’s love keeping it real, getting lean, sweatin ‘n’ dutty winding it, killer heels, being bold, picnics, road trips, London, NYC, LA, Paris, staying true to our heritage, cocktails, tattoos, Vivienne Westwood, grunge, sneakers, knuckledusters and not taking yourself too seriously."

The line will be making a debut appeareance at the "Off the radio" street wear sale to be held this sunday in West London.

Jokes aside, it will be good to go support some great artists.

The Reset In Pictures

Wednesday, 6 May 2009

Last weekend many of London's premiere independent street wear brands came together for the reset. The event is the first of it's kind where you could get all these great brands to buy underneath one roof. Which so happened to be the Nike 1948 store in trendy Shoreditch, East London.

I attended the event and although I turned up slightly late, due to a prior meeting, I really enjoyed the vibe and the turn out was brilliant. My boy ALL CAPS had a stall there and the BNTL family was out in full force to support theirs.

HERE are some pictures from the event courtesy of Trinotron, one of the brands featured.

The picture above was taken by Matt Benson. Can't wait for the next one in August as well as more pictures of the event from Matt.

Read the whole article on Obama cartoons HERE.

Finally! Mishka Store Grand Opening

Thursday, 26 March 2009

I missed out on this, one of my favorite brands finally has their own store. After years of temporary pop-up shops and warehouse sales, Mishka's hard work has finally paid off and 350 Broadway is now home to the most classy, grotesque clothing line out. Bongoboy treats us to a quick tour of the shop and the opening festivities:

Caught In The Act

Saturday, 3 January 2009

I attended Caught In The Act with my friends Sam and Charles last month, not knowing what to expect of the show but still, I kept an open mind. I was to later find out that, Caught In The Act is a comedy improvisation show similar to that other improv show you may have seen on MTV.

At this point some may question why I had to compare, it's quite ok people, even the CITA crew accept they borrowed the format that Nick Canon himself borrowed from Who's line is it anyway? During the show they had a mock version of This Is Your Life which touched on the subject. With this the CITA crew gained my respect because it pretty much went to show that they did not take themselves too seriously.

As you can see from the flyer above the show started at 7pm but the guys and I got there quite late and by then JCX and Slick, the two team captains, where on stage trying to get topics from the audience to improvise on.

My guys and I got some beers and take our seats, but an easy viewing session it was not to be for Sam as he was brought on stage to take part in a skit. He thought it was embarrassing but I think he did quite well. Take a look at the footage below and agree with me.

Sam @ Caught In The Act from Whoresneverlearn.com on Vimeo.

After Sam exits the stage having put the crowd in stitches, JCX and Slick return and introduce a short filmed skit they made especially for the night. That can can be seen by clicking HERE.

The film done the house lights come back on and it's time for a part of the show they call, musical emotions. It's pretty much the DJ playing different hip hop and RnB tracks with both teams reacting to it with improvised storytelling. The white team takes to the stage first and the footage below is the result.

Caught In The Act II from Whoresneverlearn.com on Vimeo.

Pretty funny stuff but nothing was to prepare me nor the audience for the turn of the red team. Simply put, they brought the house down!

Caught In The Act from Whoresneverlearn.com on Vimeo.

To round things up, Caught In The Act is a great Friday night out. It's the sort of show you have to catch before going about your usual Friday night antics, forget going to a pub or bar first before venturing to the clubs.

The venue is small but very cosy with a great atmosphere. It's in London's Soho and Soho on a Friday night is a sight to behold. At night, my daytime playground gets even more interesting, weird, freaky, passionate and eclectic.

One of the biggest perks of CITA besides a great performance has got to be, for a man anyway, the female to male ratio. I don't know how JCX and Slick do it but I commend them on their ability to pull in a large majority of London's beautiful women.

P.S - If the hostess from that night is reading this...Call me.

P.P.S - You can also catch JCX and Slick on Current TV (Sky 183) in the UK most weekdays.

An audience with the Soda Boys !!!

Friday, 14 November 2008

Thought I'd post some pictures of my adventures on Tuesday ...Few of my friends were DJing alongside the Soda boys (Dave from De La Soul and Smith the Mister) at Bungalow 8.

Venue is despite being kind of small very chic ... intimate ...and has got quite a laid back vibe to it.

We were also joined by Solange Knowles, Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl) and Shae from N.E.R.D.

Fortunately my girl Sherin was just about able to snap Solange in the back of one of our pictures as due to legal reasons we were not actually allowed to take any pictures ?!

Oh well...We still snapped away !! I do have to say that Solange is a very down to earth girl and I did not get any diva antics at all ! Her entourage were extremely friendly as well and even invited us for some Grey Goose whilst the bar staff also gave us free drinks ?! Haha oh how I love it.

P.S - Watch out for the Soda boys' new release 'Everybody Cha Cha' very soon ...you'll be quite surprised of some the cameos in there ...but that's all I am going to say for now ;)

One hand

Monday, 15 September 2008

The lady above is Shema Ladva, an artist who is taking part in an exhibition called One Hand at the Bodhi gallery in Brick Lane, London.

Ms Caramellita and I were in the neighbourhood when I stumbled upon the show. Awesome work being showcased there, I especially love the piece to her right (Which she created). It's going for £200 but she said she can do deals, only wish I had space to put it.

The show only runs till the 16th of September so hurry up and go take it in, it's worth it!
