Kiss Of Life

Monday, 24 August 2009

A band I have been been feeling for a while even before knowing their name. Friendly Fires have just released a video for their upcoming single, "Kiss of life".

If you're not up on them, I suggest you go out and purchase their soon to be old (in terms of release date) album as they are prepping to drop a new one. I had the pleasure of seeing them live at this year's Lovebox festival in Victoria Park, East London and all I can say is, I felt like asking Pharrell and his N.E.R.D cronies for a refund for the time I spent watching their very flat performance.

This band is definitely going places and FAST! Check out the song that shut their set down at Lovebox below.

Ready to Fly: Andreena Mill is 'Closer' to her dream

Saturday, 15 August 2009

Rarely do we promote R&B mixtapes here on whoresneverlearn, but today that has changed. While browsing some websites I ran across a tiny section that said 'Andreena Mill' and instantly thought of the woman who KILLED it on Drake's "Closer". Since that happens to be my favorite Drake song to this day I clicked the link strictly on the basis.

I'm very glad that I did.

Andreena Mill has a mixtape that was just released titled "Ready to Fly" and it's nothing short of amazing. The songstress from Toronto definitely has a solid piece of work with this and does her thing almost effortlessly it sounds like. I definitely suggest the dl.

How Fly: The Mixtape

Updating as I see my fellow Whorington Roc mentioned the Curren$y & Wiz Khalifa mixtape below me ... and I am here to provide you all with the dl link. Gave it a full listen yesterday and I must say, it does NOT disappoint. FS Jets!

5 Things (7-19)

Sunday, 19 July 2009

Been a long time since I did an edition of "5 Things I Like Right Now", so I figured it was about that time again for me to compile a list of ... 5 things that I like right now.

#1) Since Harry Potter was for me, a huge Harry Potter fan, somewhat of a disappointment, I have turned my back on movies. At least until 09/09/09, when Tim Burton's new movie "9" comes out. The film is absolutely visually stunning, and the storyline is very intriguing. You can watch the trailer below.

#2) Pretty women. Parties. Occasional Nakedness. Traveling. Random Photography. All things that I love (in moderation), and all things that you can find at lastnightsparty.

#3) I'm always on the look for new clothing companies that produce excellente tee's. I'm a huge fan of t-shirts, and the more creative, yet simple, the better. One that I recently ran across is Ideall Clothing Shop. I have to add this one to my collection sooner than later.

#4) justhearit is a beta site aimed at becoming the most innovation on demand music service online. Basically, you can instantly listen to any song you want without paying, or signing up for anything.

#5) Is 2009 the year Trey Songz emerges as a major roleplayer in r&b? In my opinion, Trey has always been one of the best, and I even went so far as to buy his last cd last year on the strength of two really good singles. This year, with the meteoric rise of one of his close friends Drake, Trey has seemingly taken his career to another level. With an album coming out soon, he's been putting out a ton of material, and this mixtpe, Anticipation, is definitely worth the dl.

The Grown Simba: J. Cole

Wednesday, 15 July 2009

Here at WNL, it's our duty to bring to you the best of everything that we find, and I, JF, have been slacking in bringing you the best of the best.

Most of you know about Sir Drizzy, aka Drake aka the current biggest thing in hip-hop. Well just as he was making his rounds dropping his first two mixtapes in 2006 & 2007, another rising star is beginning to emerge and catch the attention from a lot of people.

J. Cole is the first signee to Jay-Z's Roc Nation label, and when I say this guy can rap, it's an understatement. He's sure to draw comparisons to Drake but is definitely in a class of his own.

He has what I think is the best mixtape of the year, slightly above So Far Gone.

You can check out a track here, "Lights Please", and if you like it, a download link for his mixtape "The Warmup" is below the video.

Get In The Minivan

Friday, 3 July 2009

In addition to her Hollywood steez, mutual friend of Milly and I, Liv L'Range also raps. And very well if I may add.

Her "Sexxx With A Rapper" album should drop soon but in the meantime, she hooked up with Camp Lo to bring serve us some "Minivan" goodness.

Check out the video below.

My boy Micah Money dropped his solo mixtape a few weeks back, been meaning to post this but all the work got me forgetting somethings.

It's here now and I implore you to download it and support a young man staying out of trouble and focusing on his love of music. He has a lot of stuff coming in the pipeline, so keep watching Micha as he continues to rep his beloved VA Beach and group, Steez.

Underneath the Sky ... Chapter 2.

Wednesday, 10 June 2009

So r&b has been somewhat stale, as most r&b stars churn out one or two hits and fade away. Someone in my opinion that has the creativity and talent to change that formula is Mateo.

Previously I wrote about his first mixtape, Underneath the Sky: Chapter 1, and now I bring you Chapter 2. Included along with the songs is a video that further highlights the story behind the mixtape.

FS/DS And On Being A.W.O.L.

Saturday, 16 May 2009

I'm sure many of you regular readers of the blog, you included dad (Yes, my father reads this blog daily), have noticed a slow down in updates. I apologise, things have just been a bit hectic for me of late but it's great to be busy.

And I'm sure I speak for the other Whoringtons on this matter too. Everyone has something keeping them occupied as we all try to make our mark on the world.

As a token of appreciation to all the loyal readers as well as a gift to say, sorry we have been away. I give you Dom Kennedy's "Future Street/Drug Sounds" album, one of the few albums I have been playing the hell out of these past few weeks.

His first album, or rather mix tape "25th Hour" got equal burn in the iPod last summer when it came out. It took me a while to warm to him on the aforementioned mix tape due to his laid back/lazy Californian flow and I also suspect, the fact he used borrowed beats. With FS/DS I'm loving his work.

Back with all original beats, and all very great I may add. Dom is definitely one of the many rappers from LA you should be keeping your eyes on. Is it me or is the West Coast undergoing some sort of hip hop renaissance?

Girls And Things

Tuesday, 12 May 2009

Since Thai and WNL have a few projects in the pipeline, I thought I'd re post his mix tape from early last year called, Girls and Things.

Friendship aside, this mix tape is smoother than melted chocolate running down a slide. And it can be played around kids because Thai hardly swears.

If you did not know, it's harder to write a rap song, let alone a whole album without swearing than it is to create one with a curse word at every turn.

Sign of a true wordsmith? I think so...Download now.

Have You Got Your Copy?

Wednesday, 6 May 2009

I got mine on Monday and I have not stopped bumping this album. I've been a Curren$y fan since his first mixtape, Life at 30,000 feet and although he got dropped from Lil Wayne's Young Money imprint, he never stopped putting out great music.

This is his first pay for work and rightfully so since every mix tape he released has been free.

Support great music and buy your copy HERE.

For those of you in the UK like me, the album is around 5 or 6 pounds. C'mon mate, thats a small price to pay for great music.

Thai Matic - You Should Be With Me

Friday, 24 April 2009

My boy Thai just dropped the first track off his upcoming project, All In 2gether Now due for a summer release entitled, You should be with me.

Check it out below and watch out for some collaborations between the site and Thai in the coming months. Who said hip hop was dead in the UK?

While Some Celebrate 4/20

4/21 is where it's at. Curren$y - This Ain't No Mixtape, the album. Coming to an iTunes near you.

Double Ds

Thursday, 16 April 2009

My boy Dels just sent me this video of his performance last month, while on tour with Yo Majesty at the Nouveau casino in Paris.

The guy is really putting in work. I tried looking for pictures he recently posted for the making of his shaprshift video, it looks epic. Dels, let me get that video, man!

I finally managed to get my hands on Diz Gibran's "Soon you'll understand" mix tape and I bumped it from front to back all day today.

Solid beats, entertaining rhymes...Is it me or is LA indie hip hop killing it right now? Download the mix tape HERE.

Jared Evan

Sunday, 12 April 2009

Formerly known as Freelance. I had a chance to meet singer/lyricist/producer Jared Evan a year or so back when we were hustling in similar lanes and there are few artists in the world as down to earth as this guy with not nearly half the talent. Truly passionate about hip-hop and music in general. I don't want to drone on, but I'm happy to see Three21 snatched him up and his music will be heard by a bigger audience. 2008 was a good year for him, having shared the stage with other up-and-comers like Mickey Factz at the Brooklyn Hip-Hop festival, and opening for Lupe on one of his tour stops. 2009 is starting to look even better.

From herfection

"Here’s some footage we shot this past weekend from the “Let Me Flow” music video shoot featuring upcoming singer/songwriter Jared Evan. Now for those who follow a lot of our videos, he may seem like a familiar face as Jared has popped up in cameos ranging from “Everything Is Heltah Skeltah” to “Deeper Than Rap”. Well one day he sent me a mixtape that I almost didn’t listen to because of the artwork. But after playing a few tracks I realized how crazy this kid was and demanded that I executive produce his upcoming mixtape project “Radio In My Head”. Not only that but I figured I’d use the craziest concepts in the arsenal to shoot treatments that were deemed to risky and weird from sources that shall remain anonymous. Anywho, check the footage and Jared’s music here."
Look out for his upcoming mixtape, "Radio In My Head".

Gibran Season

Friday, 3 April 2009

Los Angeles is undergoing a renaissance and as far as hip hop goes, this is a great thing. Pac Div, Dom Kennedy and U-N-I to name a few have all had us nodding our heads.

Get ready to add Diz Gibran to that list. If you know about street wear and LA culture, you SHOULD know Diz by now. Next Tuesday, he has the "Soon you'll understand" mix tape dropping but before that he has kindly emailed me something to give you guys to snack on before the main meal.

"The Greatness" features the aforementioned Pac Div and Kartwright, I'm excited just by hearing this and so should you. Simply off the fact that Diz is nice, end of.

Make sure you check back here on Tuesday 7th April for the full album download before then, listen to the whole album on imeem now.

New Music Drop

Tuesday, 31 March 2009

The long awaited U-N-I album, yes album not mix tape has dropped. I have not had the chance to listen to it yet but Thurz was nice enough to email us a download link.

If it's anything like "Before there was love", we're in for a great treat. Download the album HERE.

JD Riggz has some new material dropping himself, but before that he has some audio to keep his fans fed before the actual meal.

Something to say is that quick snack before the new material drops.

The Love That Got Away?

Monday, 30 March 2009

I posted this mixtape awhile back ... (here) and simply put, it is AMAZING.

Recently I learned there is also a short film series that goes along with it. I'm liking it even more.

Jay-Z feat. PTWITTY - Maybe

Friday, 27 March 2009

You still waiting for that Blueprint.3?
Keep waiting..

Word on the internets is:
"Maybe" was a demo of a song he wrote for Puff. It was never his record. Or ever intended to be on American Gangster, the studio sessions from which it was recorded."
