WATCHMEN

Monday, 9 March 2009

Never heard of WATCHMEN but once i layed eyes on the first trailer, i was hooked.. copped the book immediately and been a fan ever since.. if you haven't read the book i really advise you read it sometime.. you won't regret it.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
So regardless of many fan-boy cries on the internets and others just praying on it's downfall, WATCHMEN is released & i say it's worthy to be added to the few but gradually growing list of great superhero movies..

WATCHMEN is fantastic in my eyes, i know Kev thinks different but considering the amount
of things that could have gone wrong creating a movie from a novel with so much plot & detail, then again if you didn't read the book before watching, you just might be sleeping at some points of the movie.. so i will say it once again...
READ THE NOVEL!

Zach Synder and the production team succeeded in producing a great movie, i find it hard to see how any fan of the book will be irate about the movie.

Of course there's things missing but the movie is long enough without little things being added.. and if you think the plot was a bit much or would prefer something lighter there's always the alternative of:

also a masterpiece
:S

Sooo...

Highly-recommend watching it, even if you dislike comic book movies and buy the book!

Don't watch at the IMAX, if you're expecting "Dark Knight" quality they didn't film with IMAX cameras..

NOTORIOUS

Wednesday, 18 February 2009

So it's finally here NOTORIOUS, The movie that's been hyped up by the internets since... featuring Gravy playing the lady-loving, crack-slinging, rapping-god Biggie Smalls.

I can't complain on how B.I.G was played in the movie, Gravy for a D C-Class rapper did a good job playing the man, the person that really shines in this movie is Lil' Kim's character played by Naturi Naughton[she was in 3LW way back] not only do you feel sorry for Lil' Kim
[and i thought i would never say that] She could rap like the Queen B.

The rest of the characters not that great, dare i say Puff didn't dance enough but he talked enough shi*t, the Pac was acceptable i guess but he could have been playing any rapper. Looks like they didn't pay much attention to getting an actor to portray him, i mos definitely know they didn't do this to find an actor for 2Pac..

If you watch this movie disregarding the fact that it's based on the late great Frank White's life you will enjoy this more, whereas a stan of B.I.G would probably walk out of the cinema ranting about the lack of detail in some places. The scene where he was shot was done well, so were the live-shows scenes, because i remember thinking, i wish i saw him live.
:(
So...

You're not going to be seeing the life of rapper [one of the greatest] potrayed on the big screen often for that alone you should dig in those recession raped pockets and go watch this..

The Spirit

Thursday, 1 January 2009

It's '09 and looks like a good year for movies, January alone has some of the best movies this year.. or last year if you're in the U.S.

"The Spirit" not one of them..

=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=
The guy with the lead role really got the shaft with this movie, not only does he have to play as a faux james bond, you don't see his face throughout the movie..
Samuel L" i've had it with the motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking plane!" Jackson character was probably the silliest role i've seen him play since that movie quoted above.
Apart from him never getting hurt or dying in this movie, Jackson and other characters talk about subjects no one cares resulting in very boring scenes..

=-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=

The movie had a weird mix of slapstick comedy, 3-way romance, & a suprisingly low amount of action scenes, which is insane since Sin City & 300 were excellent.

So if you're interested in a movie directed by Frank Miller and features little gore & poor action scenes BUT has a couple beautiful ladies, and a main character with a faux-james bond persona..

"The Spirit" is your movie..if you were expecting 300/Sin City greatness..
Keep waiting for "Sin City 2"

At this point, you've probably heard about or watched the recent Guy Richie movies to never want to watch anything with his name on

Don't give up on the dood...he's actually done good this time, kinda..

Yes, he's back again with the same London Gangsta theme,
Yes, you've watched the same movie thrice..
Yes, It has an predictable ending..

Well there's no but here, the movie makes a great TV movie & that's about it..

I can't lie though I enjoyed most of it but thats probably because his recent movies have been so shite, like Eddie Murphy said on RAW..
Blank

The cast [thank god for not having Mr.Futball Factories] great list of actors, even
Ludacris Chris Bridges & Jeremy Piven have a good on-screen relationship & Ms.Newton, the only chick in this sasuage-fest, provided the eye-candy if you're into that..

Richie is back on track with this movie, like Rocky 2 where Rocky was shite at the beginning then somehow got faster, better, stronger but since there's already a sequel planned for this

I say the next movie will be the REAL comeback of Mr.Richie.. [don't quote me on that]

-=-=-=-=-=-==-=---=-=-=-=-=-==-=--

Apologies for the delay i know without my reviews you're clueless on what to watch :S
to watch this movie anywhere other than IMAX for the first time is plain crazy, yeah i said it..

-=-=-=-=-=-==-=---=-=-=-=-=-==-=--

Not sure how you review a movie, that's:

a)The #1 movie of all time on IMDb..
[ didn't think any movie in my lifetime would do that ]

b) Features a dead entertainer that's being overpraised by the media [never seen that happen]

c) I guarantee you've probably seen/heard how good the movie is.

So..... in lame mans terms, i am going to punk out and make it real simple for me you

1.It's Heath Ledger's last real movie..
[Of course you didn't watch this one, so this will be a nice send off [suitable for men]
Go to the cinema and give him a standing ovation after its finished.. don't worry about the sorry excuse for cinema-goers starring at you.. ]

2.Watch the movie twice..
IMAX then at a Normal-Puny cinema screen
[no reasons necessary, but for the pencil trick alone you should watch it twice]

3. Did I mention THE Heath Ledger is in this movie?

Hardly stuck on things to write about in reviews, but theres too much to write about:

1- The fact that this movie changed how super-hero movies will be made/perceived forever- :)

2- We will never see the Joker portrayed in a movie ever again- :(
[what actor is going to challenge Mr.Ledgers performance]

3. Best Supporting Actor or Best Actor Oscar??

After all this the real question remains:

DC V Marvel

After years of considering DC down and out looks like the playing field is pretty much level:

Upcoming DC movies: Watchmen/The Flash/Green Lantern eventually Justice League

Upcoming Marvel movies: Wolverine/Iron Man 2/Captain America eventually The Avengers

Looking forward to DC movies more to be honest, the fact that i may see a good black superhero movie apart from Blade is enough to win me over.. after the 10th watching that movie can get a bit stale.

Only for this movie, the review system gets a minor change"

WALL-E

Saturday, 19 July 2008

At this rate in the future

PIXAR > Disney

Blasphemy i know, the guys that created all those films you'll love 'till death.. Yes that Disney!!

Why?!
...because in this day & age where cartoons like this are released on the regular & Animation on the big screen is generally shite..

Have to give major props to any company able to produce good animation constantly..

==--==-=-=-==--==-=-=-==--==-=-=-==--==-=-=-==--==-=-=-

With WALL-E you are provided with a glimpse of the future, where the Earth has been left to die, everyone's kicked rocks apart from the lonely and weirdly cute
Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth WALL-E robot left to do what it knows best..

Wall-E Spotted in LA!
==--==-=-=-==--==-=-=-==--==-=-=-==--==-=-=-==--==-=-=-

PIXAR once again shows you can make a film appealing to any audience & still be meaningful

It's really a modern-day silent film with a love story, full of robots in Space..

The hidden moral [ It begins with a G and ends with a Warming] remains throughout the film but doesn't hit you across the head like others do

So when it comes to it:
Pixar are the greatest [No Fanboy] and every person should watch WALL-E, simple as THAT

Don't you love it when you have low expectations for something and turns out to be great?!

The trailer I saw for this movie was a perfect example of how to make a movie look shite..

Can't find it on the internets.. but trust it sucked, and now theres no sign of it..[wonder why?!]

=-=--=-=-==-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-===-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-===-

Starring Colin Ferrel [what happened to him?] and a bunch of guys/girls you never heard of..

I rather not describe the plot, its what makes the movie so entertaining and unique..

It's one of the best films I've seen this year.. if you can, DON'T WATCH ANY TRAILERS FOR THE FILM and see the film... yeah it sounds crazy.. but you trust me right?!

If you're a fan of swearing but in a "smart" manner, dark comedy AND more importantly a film with an actual unpredictable ending..
[i kid you not] then this is your film.

Unlike most UK films, this is entertaining and not smug in anyway whatsoever & doesn't include a bunch of D grade actors/actress from the UK, PLUS it's backed by the Film 4 studio so you KNOW it's going to be good.

You won't be disappointed, if you are just buy a tub of M & M's.. that always pleases me..

Whatever YOU like to do..." (c) Jay-Z

No. I am not a SATC freak. I was being sarcastic... but Carrie & Co managed to perform a feat no other movie in the recent weeks has done....IT KEPT ME AWAKE! Wow! And I'm being dead serious-I tend to fall asleep all the time at the cinema...can someone tell me what happened in the last 30 mins of Transformers.... (it's that bad!)

Anyway, it must mean that SATC the Movie IS as good as everyone says it is-especially as I have only ever watched approx. three of the episodes on TV (shock horror).

But on tha reeeeal-if you're like me and screw your face up at the mention of a bait chick flick, this one will actually entertain you. I think the many outfits told my female senses to stay on point and awake because it was literally 20 outfits per second in this movie. I won't get technical but you get my drift-good movie.

INDY 4

Friday, 23 May 2008

"do do do dooo dun dun dun..."

Yes boys and girls, you're favorite old guy wearing a fedora is here.. no not MJ..
Henry Walton Jones, Jr Indiana Jones is back and still fighting bad guys at the age of 65..
[jealous much?!]

Harrison back to reclaim his role as I.J, Shia LeBeouf aka Even Stevens
[random factoid: did you know his grandma was a beatnik lesbian] as his son and some other guys and dolls.

The on-screen relationship between Harrison and Shia was entertaining better than i expected,
[siderbar: Definitely underrated the kid, his next movie looks like Phone Booth - The Booth]

Half of the cast in the movie are not necessary, Have no idea why Winstone is in the movie..
I didn't care if he lived or died, he looked like a superior movie extra..
he had a page of lines in the movie & when he wasn't talking he was being punched.

=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

I for one, couldn't give a flying "shut your mouth" about Indiana Jones and his world, eventhough i enjoyed the previous movies.

Storyline was unimaginative won't spoil it but it's disappointing 'cause you have Spielbergo & Lucas on the same movie but they're old now so I'll allow them.

With classic movies being brought up from the grave, theres going to be the inevitable...

''YOU RUINED MY CHILDHOOD, BURN IN HELL"

but if I put myself in the place of a die-hard Indy fan, not only would I be screaming the above, I'll be making voodoo dolls resembling Spielbergo and Lucas..

Started great, i was hooked for the first hour BUT there was 10-20 mins that was PISS BORING... no lie, i am not a guy that wants action every millisecond, but i swear my eyes were lowering with every B.S dialogue I heard..
Picked up in the last hour & went back to the good action scenes and CGI we love from Spielbergo & Lucas but then the ending arrived and boy was that unexpected!! [sarcasm level-11]

IF you're a fan of the series you shouldn't watch it but IF you're not, it provides a satisfactory movie experience but with the ridiculous amount of sick movies out/coming soon, better to not spend your dosh on something thats ''satisfactory''

Indiana Jones can have a peaceful sleep knowing it has influenced/inspired a crap-load of movies/games/tv shows and after everything it was an average send-off..

You know like a funeral where the speaker flopped but you understood what they were trying to say.

New Kid On The Blog.. *sigh*

Tuesday, 20 May 2008

Hello to the existing & new readers of WNL... I'm kinda new here so be kind to the kid

From now on I'll be providing some thought provoking reviews [ha!] on the latest movies the fat-cats at Hollywood release and every now and then the films the humble Indie's provide

A taste of what am about..
====================================================================

The thing about Iron Man he's not as popular as the other superheroes in his crew, he hasn’t got a catchy theme tune and I don't remember the last time someone named a dance after him THOUGH he lacks in these features, what Mr. Starks outshines in is he provides pure swagger.

To be honest, you could watch this movie without anything blowing up for 1hr and Mr. Downey charisma could hold your attention.

The cast
Downey Jr. as Iron Man aka the other Tony Starks, Paltrow as the assistant that lives to work for T.S, and the 2nd Cool guy in the movie Mr. Terrence Howard

Not much to say about the actors in the movie, Paltrow plays a seemingly dull "oh she has a sexy alter-ego” girl which isn't all that interesting.

The most enjoyable scenes are easily the ones with Downey and Terrence, their relationship in the movie got the most laughs & should be shown more if there’s ever a sequel. Oh and the writers pop a few hints of a sequel more than once...

[FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, PLEASE STAY AFTER THE CREDITS, you won't regret it!]
Overall, unlike the recent Marvel movies, Iron man puts the storyline first. Be ready for elongated scenes of how the suit was made [caters to the fanboys], and characters you wont care for. Luckily, this is only for the first hour and after that there's nothing but action and GOOD humor.

[Something Spidey 3 failed to provide]

Only beef I got is they didn’t give the O.G Tony Starks his scene in the movie, which better be in the DVD extras.

I'm pretty much speechless right now, honestly. The cinemas are sure to be packed in the next few months with great movies dropping left right and center. So yeah, I need a movie date...Somebody take me to the movies!

And you thought you loved Polo

Sunday, 16 March 2008

Heres a trailer from the forth coming documentary about the Lo Lifes. For those who don't know the Lo lifes are the combination of several gangs of youths that boosted NYC stores back in the day. They would steal as much Polo anything as humanly possible, according to lore they stole as much as $5million worth of merchandise off Ralph Lauren. Amongst them are a few rappers who might be familiar to the underground heads amongst you.

Warning shot

Monday, 18 February 2008

A screen test actually. For the Spike Jonze movie adaptation of the children' novel "Where the wild things are". Not due out till 2009.

Not bad for a throw away clip.

Trivia : James Gandolfini of The Sopranos provides the voice of the big guy in the finished product.

EDIT 19/2/08: Warner Brothers have gotten youtube to remove the clip as they have with many other outlets.

“that was a very early test with the sole purpose of just getting some footage to Ben our vfx (visual effects) supervisor to see if our vfx plan for the faces would work. The clip doesn’t look or feel anything like the movie, the Wild Thing suit is a very early cringy prototype, and the boy is a friend of ours Griffin who we had used in a Yeah Yeah Yeahs video we shot a few weeks before. We love him, but he is not in the actually film...Oh and that is not a wolf suit, its a lamb suit we bought on the internet. Talk to you later...“ - Spike Jonze
