HARDKNOCK!

Tuesday, 25 August 2009

Hardknock and Fenchurch are taking over the Legion in the heart of Shoreditch this Friday 28th August.

There's live PA's from underground heavyweights Shystie, Ruff Squad, Dot Rotten and Sub Universe, plus DJs Logan Sama, Murkage Cartel, Goldielocks, Tanzanite and Drama.

It'll be a guaranteed jump-off point for your weekend and you can expect to hear anything with a dutty bassline. Grime, Dubstep, Hip Hop, Garage etc, strictly no Akon, Lady Gaga or Calvin Harris.

The best bit? It's FREE before 10pm and only £4 after.  The evening kicks off at 9pm and it's carriages at 2am.

The women are taking over and one of their first ports of call is Diesel radio, where they have manged to commandeer themselves a really dope show.

Come Crawling!

Tuesday, 21 April 2009

Ladies and Gentlemen, it's that time of year again when Camden is taken over for Le Crawl (Camden Crawl that is). Love it or hate, it's this weekend and this year promises to be even more jam-packed than before. They'll be everything from gigs and comedy to spoken word and film shorts.

THE FACTS:

The event runs from midday Friday 24th - Saturday 25th April

150 artist and special guests taking part

It spans over a mile and a half of Camden

Over 40 Camden venues taking part

In keeping with Crawl tradition and the spirit of discover, the full line-ups and stage times remain a closely guarded secret until each night and surprise guests may appear at any time and at any venue. However, I have been told that local ska legends Madness will be performing some secret gigs (which will be open to everyone), along with the likes of: Kasabian, The Enemy, Little Boots, Camden boys Man Like Me, electro/grime/dubstep/pop tour de force GoldieLocks, Newham Generals and local, swingin' talent Kitty Daisy & Lewis, to name but a few. So, there should be something for everyone.

As a local, I have to admit that I've only skirted around the edges of the Crawl in previous years, not really getting involved but approaching it like another really busy Sunday in Camden (taking back streets to get anywhere and muttering obscenities at people under my breath). Mention the Crawl and most people have an opinion, many muttering something about 'selling out', 'massive queues' or it's 'not what it was' but this year I will be embracing the experience and jumping in with both feet. I am willing to cough up for a ticket, ignore all the corporate sponsorship and stick to the smaller, lesser-known events and venues, rubbing shoulders with locals and making friends as I go about discovering new things. Ok, maybe I'm being slightly idealistic. I am aware that most 'crawlers' won't be local (and probably half my age) and it will be heaving but I full intend to soak up the atmosphere, ignore the stench of sweat and Stella, get involved in things I've never tried (Who Killed Bambi music quiz and Speed Hating sound good to me) and start as many random, bizarre conversations as I can. Come join me!
