Our Banner Girl Rules London

Wednesday, 12 August 2009

Extended family member and banner girl (Although no longer blonde) Ms Rinnie was featured in the style section of the London Paper this Monday, 10-08-09.

She pretty much ethered everyone else featured and a big smile ran across my face when I saw her in it whilst on the tube. WNL famo pop up in the most random places I tells ya.

Rinnie gets love always and she dresses better than your favourite style icon, yes I said it.

All Love In The City

Sunday, 9 August 2009

Yesterday, I ventured to the seven dials in Covent Garden to see my peoples, ALL CITY to talk about stuff on the horizon as well as just generally catch up.

For the past two weeks or so they have had a pop up shop at the seven dials to promote their limited edition tees.

Whilst there, I was offered some tees and I picked the two you see in this post. I know everyone and their mothers make t shirts these days but, relationship aside, the ALL CITY garments are of great quality.

Quality cotton, strong neck and brilliant eye for detail, right down to the inside label. So without ado, I implore you to support your local creative collective and go buy a tee.

You can get a tee HERE.

Hardest Squire Ever

Monday, 3 August 2009

British Esquire magazine have done something for next month's edition of the magazine that is a first for their long illustrious history.

For September's edition of the magazine, featuring Quentin Tarantino on the cover. The magazine will come in the usual magazine format, as well as a limited edition hardback edition which will only be available in East Anglia and the south of England.

Looking forward to this as Esquire is one of my favourite lite reads.

The Sartorialist Book: Coming Soon

Saturday, 1 August 2009

"This has been a labor of love. Taking the pictures, editing the pictures, arranging the pictures, doing most of the writing while I was still in Phoenix after my Dad died. It's hard to put into words how one feels looking at their own work presented like this - so I won't even try.

I hope you enjoy the book and I will keep you posted about the book signing tour, the SartoriaLUST pop-up shops, and any other events surrounding the launch of the book."

August 12th type soon

Fly Society

Friday, 17 July 2009

My little brother from across the pond, Akstar just dropped his new season look book. Truth be told, the concept is really quite dope.

I'm not just saying that because he's my friend. I actually mean that, but what do I know, right?

Well feast your eyes below and I dare you to disagree.

Now, head over to Akstarlifestyle and support a focused and driven young man.

The Pretender

Monday, 6 July 2009

"Char-la-tan

–noun

A person who pretends to more knowledge or skill than he or she possesses; quack."

That dictionary definition could not be furthest from the truth when talking about this Charlatan.

The brain child of Micheal Trapster and all round doing it all girl, Gemma Kane. The line is exclusively for the ladies and here's what the brains behind it say about it.

"Charlatan began life early 2009, catering to the young, intelligent, outspoken, forward thinking, fashion and culture orientated girls worldwide. Girls that are doing their thing. Girls that aren’t afraid to push the boundaries.

We Charlatan’s love keeping it real, getting lean, sweatin ‘n’ dutty winding it, killer heels, being bold, picnics, road trips, London, NYC, LA, Paris, staying true to our heritage, cocktails, tattoos, Vivienne Westwood, grunge, sneakers, knuckledusters and not taking yourself too seriously."

The line will be making a debut appeareance at the "Off the radio" street wear sale to be held this sunday in West London.

10 Essentials

Friday, 5 June 2009

Another Kanye West post in the spate of a week? I guess I'm a certified Kanye Stan like my boy GK...hahaha.

But in all seriousness, he is one of my personal fashion icons. I like the way he manages to put outfits together and although he gets it wrong sometimes like all of us, he's still willing to take a risk.

I must not be the only one that sees him as some sort of fashion icon, as Men.Style.Com recently hit him up to provide them with a list of essential wardrobe must haves.

Read all about Mr West's 10 essential items HERE.

Trinotron Site Launched

Sunday, 31 May 2009

The good people over at TRINOTRON just launched their website. I saw it on Saturday and I have to say it's quite amazing, the graphics, the music the colours.

Go check it out HERE. Great to see a London brand doing big things.

Smarten up, Nas

I've been out enjoying the glorious British sunshine in between working my ass off at my day job as well as other side projects, hence the lack of regular updates from me.

But I'm back now and I thought why not do a small list of stuff I'll be rocking this summer that may help someone else put together a nice summer outfit, please bear in mind I'm no Gok Wan but I try my best,so humour me.

Lets start off from the top. Shades, I'm going to get myself a pair of wayfarer shades to replace my old one but at the same time I'm looking at these spitfire joints (Second one above). I don't know why but they have this 80s drug dealer feel about them.

If you're unsure due to the structure of your face you can stick to the tried and tested aforementioned wayfarers.

If what the weathermen say this summer is going to be like comes to pass, then I'm going to need to be comfortable in the heat and no other way to do it than in a cotton tee. I usually wear a lot of tees with "art" on them but of late plain tees or tees with simplistic "art" appeal more to my taste.

So I say plain white tees from UNIQLO should do the trick, or American Apparel striped tees. The whole nautical Americana preppy look is big with me right now.

When I stopped wearing any garment over the size of M six or so years ago, my dad (Hi dad!) said to me in our native language, "You've grown up". I guess I can now say the same about footwear, long gone are my days of splashing out on the latest dunks or blazers.

This summer like most of the time, I'll be mostly in Vans eras, syndicates, half cabs but boat shoes and espadrilles will be added to the staple. Yeah, you heard right, even more shocking (To myself at least) is I'm starting to really adore the simplicity of plain white converses.

For many years I was anti converse but now, the simplicity of the plain white ones speaks volumes to me, it's just so clean. But I must warn those that have double digit shoe sizes to be weary of purchasing any plain white shoes...They will make you and Bozo the clown look like foot cousins, in other words.

They make your feet look even bigger than they already are.

So there it is, some of the stuff you will be able to catch me wearing this summer of the "Staycation". If I think of any more stuff I'll do a follow up.

The Foreign Legion

Sunday, 12 April 2009

Sort of continuing on from my last post. Been salivating over Clarks desert boots for a while now, not too hyped about buying too many trainers these days, except Vans.

But I think clean simple shoes, note I said shoes not trainers, are my newest addiction.

Let's hit those sand dunes!

Murder In The First

Friday, 10 April 2009

I saw this picture earlier on over at, The Sartorialist and I had to get up from my seat and clap. Bit strange considering that I'm at home on my own, but I had to.

I have decided, although it's been a long time coming to update my look once again and with the urging of my good friend Mister Lego, I decided to slowly join his fledgling army. Army of what? I hear some say, well the army of the finer dressed gentleman. I'm getting bored of the whole generic street wear look these days, you know the look. High top trainers, latest hype tee etc.

And although I have not dressed like that in almost a year and a half and tend to be more casual, lace ups or deck shoes, slim/skinny jeans, nice shirt cardigan and mac. I have decided it's time to fully embrace the finer sides of, for the lack of a better word, "grown up and sessy fashion". Don't think, oh lord just yet as you can still catch me in some vans and stuff but it's just that that street wear look, has become so boring to me now it's time to update.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, Kevin is continuing his metamorphosis in life from stage to stage and I find it all quite exciting too! It's not just the clothes but my general outlook on life and opinions on certain subjects are changing. I find myself embracing certain things that a few years back I would have opposed, only because I was ignorant to some facts.

Life is beautiful.

Speaking of Mister Lego, aside from writing as part of our extended family BNTL he has resurrected his own solo blog once more. It features a lot of his illustration work and you can contact him via the blog if you need an illustration done. It's called Eatpencil.

Take a look, the brother is amazing at what he does.

The Other Wale

Friday, 3 April 2009

Mr Wale Adeyemi who a couple of years ago dressed David and Victoria Beckham in his signature print clothes has launched a new venture, B side.

Craig just sent me the video look book, as you can see below and I'm really liking a lot of the stuff featured. Wale is reloaded.

The Ex Factor

Tuesday, 3 March 2009

You may remember a brand from France we did a small feature on last year. Druks have returned with more goodness for your backside, this time with their "season EX" collection.

The collection for now are mostly graphic tees but I'm sure with time more range will emerge from this brand. Below are some pictures from the "season EX" collection.

Keep up with the Druks guys by visiting their blog HERE

Worst Hip Hop Fashion

Monday, 23 February 2009

A list of some of hip hop's "worst fashion statements". I don't know if I whole heartedly agree with this list because I know there are worse, still an enjoyable read though.

During rap’s “golden age” the high top fade was the go to hairstyle of choice for discerning wordsmiths everywhere. Well, not exactly everywhere, N.W.A. certainly loved their jheri curls. Anyway, what I’m getting at is that it was quite popular and, when used in moderation, only slightly stupid looking. Christopher “Kid” Reid, one half of the happy go lucky kick stepping rap duo Kid ‘N Play, did not grasp this need for moderation. When their first album was released, his hair was already the largest in the game. Although nobody else really seemed attention hungry enough to challenge his throne, he decided to keep it growing anyway. The insanity continued well into the years when nobody cared anymore, as this screen shot from the movie Class Act clearly shows.

Read the rest HERE.

Building Blocks

Thursday, 19 February 2009

Is anyone Lego'ed out yet? Seems like Lego is going to make an even bigger splash on the scene this year, from phones to camera's and accessories the child's toy has now become somewhat of a fashion staple.

Personally, I couldn't really get into it but people that do carry it well. I wonder how much money Dee and Ricky are going to get or are getting for reviving (Well, it never went away so let's use another word), bringing forth into the mainstream fashion consciousness the coolness of Lego (That's better...sounds clever too).

From Kanye to Sham to Takashi Murakami. Everyone seems to be rekindling their childhood love for the plastic building bricks and companies are getting in on the act too, however, can you be taken seriously pulling out a Lego phone to take someone's contact details at a networking event?

Well, sure why not! It will make you look cooler but depending on the event you might come across a tad Timmy Mallet.

Check out the Batman x Spiderman film made in Lego Kieran (I swear he lives to find us stuff) sent me. Pretty neat...Thanks again mister Kiers.
