I think I've seen something like this before, can't remember where or if it was her. Still beautiful to watch.
End To End Burners

For those not in the know, an end to end burner is graf slang for when you paint a train from back to front.
It's been a while since I saw one of those and I hope they make a comeback one day, anyway the good old BBC has a cool little piece on graf art on their website and it's quite a read with videos included.
Go ahead, take a look HERE.

Long time readers of the blog will remember my boy, Myles. Perhaps one of the coolest guys I have the pleasure of knowing, and for a few years now he has been collecting tattoos.
His preference are mostly nautical related but of late he has ventured into skulls and the all seeing eye.
From the last time he was featured on the blog to now, he has added a few more to his collection which you can see pictured below.
Eventually, he hopes to cover most of his body in tattoos aside from the neck and face. He does want one on his head though, which he says hair will cover anyway.
The work done on him so far is so beautiful that at a recent tattoo convention (Myles is a tattoo apprentice) the ship on his arm was snapped and featured in this month's edition of Total Tattoo.
Below is his most recent addition, it's a skull from the Mexican festival of the day of the dead. It's still an outline but it will be coloured in. I'll get pictures once it has.
Myles makes me want to get my body inked, although it will have to be some place on my person I cannot see because if I see it too often I'll get bored and eventually hate it...Yeah, I'm terrible like that.
And to end this post, I present you with Myles' anthem. I brought it to his knowledge and he so far likes it lol.

Lets Journey To Yesterday

The hippopotamus at the Zoological Gardens, Regent's Park, London, 1852, from Points of View: Capturing the 19th Century in Photographs. Photograph: Don Juan Carlos, Duke of Montizon/The British Library.
Later this year, October to be precise, the British library will be exhibiting some rare photographs of Britain and other parts of the world from the 19th and early 20th century.
Pictures to be included in the show will be the building of Nelson's column, a hippo in Reagent's park London, the construction of the central line and many more.
The picture that strikes me the most has to be the construction of the central line, possibly my favourite of all the London tube lines. The image stands as a testament to the technological advancement of not just the Victorians but the things which can be made possible by the amazing human mind.
The show is free and even if it wasn't I would still be as stoked as I am now. In all honesty, I cannot wait for this. Do yourself a favour and go marvel at these small glimpses of time frozen in stills forever.
See more pictures HERE.

Kid Cudi recently released his album artwork through his twitter. I have to say, it's pretty dope. Definitely different than the norm.

Jokes aside, it will be good to go support some great artists.

With all this talk of swine flu it was just a matter of time before people started to build products round it.Illustrator Yoriko Yoshida has come up with various colourful surgical masks to keep you safe from the, if you believe the pessimists, impending second wave of swine flu in the autumn.

Lichtenstein
Friday, 20 March 2009
I know the work but never really knew the name. I think at certain points I thought the work belonged to Warhol, but the truth has finally been revealed to me. It's also a bonus that all of it is compressed into one book. The book is by Jurgen Doring called, Lichtenstein posters and is available to buy. I'm going to have to pick it up and learn more about the late Roy Lichtenstein.

4
Wednesday, 4 March 2009
Channel four will never cease to amaze me and shall continue to be one my favourite terrestrial and satellite television channel. The BBC is older than time itself but like that politically incorrect relative that farts and falls asleep in the middle of conversations, she still serves a purpose. ITV is so so, but manage to grab some great Hollywood box office smashes for broadcast before most other channels. Five started off as a dump that showed late night soft core porn but over the past few years has managed to re brand itself and is actually watchable, when I remember it's there.
Four however, will always be the cool channel that still represents the "yoof" (To some extent) and show great cutting edge films, original programmes and try ground breaking stuff even at the risk of peeving off a few television watchdogs.
One other thing I really love about four is how they brand themselves, especially the creative ways they have fun with the number 4 that doubles as the station's logo. Earlier today, well yesterday, I came across the picture to the left from a friend's twittpic profile.
It's the channel four logo and it's been apparently created using umbrellas left on the tube. Whoever made it must have just raided London underground's lost and found cupboard. It's really cool though, and from what I gather they switch up the designs every now and then, one of the previous ones was made with paper mache or cardboard, I'm not sure which and don't want to speculate.
The logo in front of the station is not the only thing they switch up regularly, they also have fun with the station ident too. Below you can see a short film chronicling the different forms of the 4.
I'll try and get some more pictures of the umbrella four logo soon.
Random fact: Slumdog Millionaire and Trainspotting as well as a load of great indie flicks where produced or partly funded by Film Four, channel four's independent film production company.
Edit: 10:53am, Just got a night time picture of the installation from Courtney. Will have even more pics soon. Stay tuned.

We Hart Tony 4Eva
Sunday, 1 March 2009

A whole league of grown up kids were crushed when Tony Hart died last month. Tony taught us all how to draw and was a kids TV fave from a lot of peoples early years.
Today a flashmob of plasticine figures were lined up outside the Tate modern in London to honour him. Some pictures of the event can be seen below, you can also read more and see a video of the event HERE.

Friend & Co.
Monday, 23 February 2009

While browsing the net earlier, I came across these items from Friend & Co. An art gallery in Bristol, UK that claims to be the smallest in the world, if not the world then Bristol...haha... I love it.
What Friends & Co. do is, produce limited edition prints of artists, put on shows and make the most of it as they go along.
Their prices are very reasonable for the fantastic art they sell and in addition to that, they make limited and not so limited edition tote bags. This way, you can carry the art everywhere with you and show it off.

4 The Love Of Go(l)d
Thursday, 19 February 2009

I can presume we all know who Damien Hirst is? Anyway, I saw this in the paper yesterday I knew it was going to be BIG.
It's a sculpture by a Spanish artist depicting Hirst committing suicide. Eugenio Merino's work was exhibited at the ARCO art fair in Madrid, Spain. Now, I'm not a Hirst hater but for some reason I really like this sculpture as it makes you think about the state modern art.
It's making an observation on modern artists and some of the gimmicks they sometimes use in hyping and selling their products at astoundingly high prices and those willing to fork out for it.
Also at the same time, Merino's work is contradicting itself because he's also using the same tactic the artists he's trying to lampoon to sell his own work. So many twists and turns, I love it!
This is modern art that I can really dig.

Pop Art Idol
Monday, 26 January 2009

Art collector Charles Saatchi, famed for spotting young British artists such as Damien Hirst, is taking part in a new television programme aimed at finding fresh talent, the BBC said Sunday.
The reclusive former advertising guru will select six artists from a shortlist and, with other tutors, help them develop their work during three months at a specially-designed art school.
The winner will display their work at Saatchi's forthcoming exhibition at The Hermitage in St Petersburg, Russia.
In the BBC programme "Saatchi's Best of British," the famously media-shy collector will not speak directly to camera but will be filmed as he helps out the artists, the British broadcaster said.
"I am looking forward to the prospect of finding undiscovered British talent," Saatchi said.
The programme is due to be screened from September.

The first batch of WNL stickers has arrived and I'm quite pleased with how they turned out. So far, I have given a few out to people who have promised to throw them up for us.
I'm especially excited about a friend of mine who I gave almost 50 or so stickers, due to the fact she's traveling around the world and promised to throw them up in as many visible places as possible so keep your eyes out world!
The art work on the sticker is the handy work of a Ms V Harrop (Much love, Vic). A graphic and media design consultant based in London. If you like what you see from the wonderful work she's done for us. Feel free to hit her up for a quote, I'm sure she will be more than willing to cook you up something incredible.
You can contact Ms Harrop at Vicky_Shopaholic@yahoo.com
In the mean time, if you're around London. Keep your eyes peeled!
Illustrated Darwin
Friday, 16 January 2009

Still on the subject of comic books, I just read on the Forbidden Planet blog that a Darwin graphic novel is in the works.
Read more about it below.
"Simon also mentioned that he had been working on a 100-page comic, Darwin: a Graphic Biography, similar in style to one on the life of the great engineer Brunel he was involved with a few years ago. And I thought I should really point out that the Darwin biographical comic is coming out very soon because it sounds interesting, its a project with some educational as well as entertaiment value (a good way for those who might not pick up a science book to still fill in some gaps in their knowledge of one of the key theories underpinning modern biological sciences) and, I must add with a touch of perverse pleasure, because I suspect it will annoy those who keep trying to legitimise ‘intelligent’ design (on a related note, one of my favourite books from last year, Ken MacLeod’s Night Sessions, had a great take on Creatonism). And I also had to mention it because, as with the earlier Brunel work Simon has been working in collaboration with Eugene Byrne."

Interesting.

Have A 'Art
Sunday, 21 December 2008

Some cheap but cheerful art I found out about. In this season of giving, it would not be such a bad idea to give one of these to someone.

The match boxes above are from Blu Q merchandise. Although I would not recommend the first one as a Christmas gift, unless it's to a very hated ex partner. Then that makes it alright...I kid, I kid.
Below we have art from a woman who has worked with The Kings Of Leon, The Melvins and Kraftwerk, Tara McPherson.

I like the pencil drawn image above as I was a big comic book fan when I was younger.

Last but not least, some very colourful tax disc holders. These are for those of you that drive in the United Kingdom. Instead of your boring old road tax holder, you have these pretty bespoke discs to use in displaying them on your windscreen.

You can get them all from Artcarbootfair
