5 Things (7-19)

Sunday, 19 July 2009

Been a long time since I did an edition of "5 Things I Like Right Now", so I figured it was about that time again for me to compile a list of ... 5 things that I like right now.

#1) Since Harry Potter was for me, a huge Harry Potter fan, somewhat of a disappointment, I have turned my back on movies. At least until 09/09/09, when Tim Burton's new movie "9" comes out. The film is absolutely visually stunning, and the storyline is very intriguing. You can watch the trailer below.

#2) Pretty women. Parties. Occasional Nakedness. Traveling. Random Photography. All things that I love (in moderation), and all things that you can find at lastnightsparty.

#3) I'm always on the look for new clothing companies that produce excellente tee's. I'm a huge fan of t-shirts, and the more creative, yet simple, the better. One that I recently ran across is Ideall Clothing Shop. I have to add this one to my collection sooner than later.

#4) justhearit is a beta site aimed at becoming the most innovation on demand music service online. Basically, you can instantly listen to any song you want without paying, or signing up for anything.

#5) Is 2009 the year Trey Songz emerges as a major roleplayer in r&b? In my opinion, Trey has always been one of the best, and I even went so far as to buy his last cd last year on the strength of two really good singles. This year, with the meteoric rise of one of his close friends Drake, Trey has seemingly taken his career to another level. With an album coming out soon, he's been putting out a ton of material, and this mixtpe, Anticipation, is definitely worth the dl.

March Madness edition. Well, not really ... but w/e.

1. Hulu.com

I know this has been around for awhile ... but I was never hip to it, and if you weren't either, now you are. Only one picture can describe why Hulu is pretty amazing, besides the fact you can watch full episodes of a lot of shows, and movies ... in AMAZING quality.

2. Although I suck at it, I'm a huge fan of photography ... and I love seeing photos from people that know what they're doing. One person who definitely does, AND is great at editing said photos is a friend of mine, Bryant. I definitely recommend you all go check out his photography HERE.

3. THE DAFT PUNK CONSOLE. Okay, so this may be one of the coolest things I've seen on the internet this year lol. I actually play this along to the actually song to see how well I can do it. I won't explain it anymore ... just go try it! go here.

4. AskMen.com ... this site is pretty ... nice? I mean, there are women, style tips ... a power & money section. Usually I go here to read their Top 10 lists. They're pretty funny ... while at the same time, pretty informative. SOMETIMES. example: Top 10 Things You Never Want To Hear Her Say ...No.3 - "I've been thinking..." www.AskMen.com

5. Just because this LITERALLY made me spit out my drink:

6. I know that it's FIVE things ... but this video + Kanye's verse = AMAZINGNESS. gotta make up words and everything lol.

I'm feeling at this moment. Bear with me.

1) Complex's interview with Drake. Now, I consider myself a huge fan of Drake, since '06, and personally I thought "So Far Gone" was pretty good.

I know a lot of people are upset that he sang so much, so it was glad to read "My album is not going to sound like So Far Gone. It’s a well-rounded body of work that—again people will relate to what I’m saying, but the songs are made obviously to be sold to the public, so this was just my chance to think and write freely. It’s a solid hip hop album."

He also speaks on ghostwriting for Wayne. Interesting read.

2) Last.fm
I guess this is kind of like, IMEEM, but in my opinion, a little better. You sync it with your iTunes or Windows Media Player, and it keeps track of your favorite artists, plays, etc. Pretty interesting. You can find mine HERE.

3) The new lineup of Supra's. I'm so iffy on shoes at the moment. Everything is kind of the same, and I was worried Supra would not follow up an excellent 2008 ... then I saw these. Madness.

4) Who knew Diggy from Run's House had a blog? And that while it LOOKS plain, the content is actually a little ... interesting? Well, not I, until recently, but check it out HERE.

Oh, and I was looking at buying one of those Lego bow ties, or hearts ... then saw they were $85. =| I could build my own, damn.

5) New Macbook.
After the untimely demise of my old Macbook about a year ago, I've finally gathered the funds (with some help) to get back into the Apple community. Soon, very soon ... I shall have another Macbook. 13" Aluminum edition. MMMM.

Top 5 Music Disappointments

Thursday, 15 January 2009

As I clicked through the songs on my iPod looking for something that I hadn't heard in a while, I came across He Can Only Hold Her by Amy Winehouse. Back to Black has been on repeat for the past 3 days. I came to the realization that she was a huge disappointment to me! That album was phenomenal, but we'll probably never have the satisfaction of something similar from Ms. Winehouse.

I decided to compose a list of my Top 5 Music Disappointments:

5. I'm a New Yorker who came up around the Mase/Cam/You Don't Believe in HarlemWorld N*gga double up era. So I was definitely a Killa fan. But Purple Haze may as well have been called Curtains for Killa. I often have to provide a valid argument as to why I'm a Cam fan, but put simply he's a good rapper, very witty, it just comes off as corny. But after Come Home With Me...no mas. There's no redeeming yourself after you say "Let's get purple like Grimace or Barney."

4. I was introduced to Forte at the tender age of 10 and I fell in love with his voice. I remember harassing my cousin because I didn't know who was on the last verse of Family Business. Then Poly Sci dropped, greatly slept on. Then he goes ahead and gets knocked. Luckily he's been pardoned and I hope he'll get to work very soon.

3. The music, her vocals, provided for such a well put together album. When I first listened to it, I thought it was gonna be what I call a "skip-to-my-lou" , one of the ones that you don't let play from top to bottom. Surprisingly, I had found one of my favorite albums. But Ms. Winehouse obviously never took the D.A.R.E program because she let the drugs run her into the ground. And even if she tried to make a comeback, I don't think that her voice will be the same thanks to the emphysema.

2. Christopher "Frank White" Wallace. The love of my life because his music was the first to make my ears connect to my heart connect to my brain...just an extreme experience whenever I listened to/listen to his music. His lyrics made me think. I loved him because if you close your eyes when you listen to his work, it plays like a movie. Story to tell...nuff said. When we lost him we lost a genius and no one can begin to come close to the great artist that was Big.

1. Now since I'm new to the blog, you guys don't know about how much of a fanatic/stan/borderline obsessed beast I am when it comes to Ms. Hill. I won't even try to begin to explain. But the disappointment that came from her was a double whammy. Not only did I lose L...I lost the Fugees. The Score was the album that made me fall in love with Hip Hop. I remember sneaking to listen to the cassette because I wasn't allowed to listen to albums with parental advisory warnings. I fell in love. I loved Lauryn. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, one of the most well crafted albums that I have ever heard. Great production and the mood of the album itself provided for a spectacular ear experience.
But no mas...I never lose hope in the fact that maybe she'll come back. Even after seeing her outrageous performance in Wingate Park last summer. But you never lose faith in the ones you love.

1. Tumblr.
So amidst the hundreds of social networking sites that probably popped up in recent memory, Twitter was the main one that caught my eye ... until I discovered Tumblr. Simple, to the point ... I loved it. My favorite Tumblr'r? None other than Travis McCoy.

2. Anderson Cooper.
Now me being a journalism major, I have a certain affinity towards REAL reporting, which is exactly what Anderson Cooper, the best anchor at CNN, is doing. (that was a lot of commas lol). AC is reporting from Israel, while he could be sitting at home in his comfy studio reporting. Stay safe.

3. Lakers. 30-6. 'Nuff said.

4. Notorious.
"If you don't know, now you know." Immortal! My favorite rapper's favorite rapper ... and your favorite rapper's line-grabber's movie is finally coming out this Friday. I'll be going to see it Saturday, but will be awaiting a review from Mr. Londoner ... you gotta do this one! I've heard good things about this movie, and I admit I'm a little biased being a HUGE Biggie fan, so I can't wait to finally go see it.

5. TheHundreds photography.
I know I've referenced them before, but that was just the clothing aspect ... but seriously, what makes TheHundreds one of my daily reads is the awesome photography on display over there.

Dec. 1 - 5 Things ...

Monday, 1 December 2008

In honor of the new layout (fresh!) here's a brand new list of 5 Things I like right now ...

1. I actually wanted to do something like this, but I have to admit, dude does it waaaay better. Props given where props are due. Over at www.leaders1354.com, there's a daily(?) series called WhatDidTyWearToday. Always has on some fresh stuff. Definitely check it out.

2. I've been reading this blog for about a month now, and love the eclectic taste in music. More towards your club/electro type, but they always post fresh music.

3. For the Steven Spielberg in all of us ... there's this weird little quirky site where you can make your own movie. Their tagline is, "If you can type, you can make movies." Lol, interesting ...

4. I love this guy's pictures. They always capture the vibe of the party/setting he's at ... and the people are usually fly. Definitely one of my weekly haunts.

5. Lakers are 14-1. 'Nuff said.

Been gone for awhile ... family issues and such.

However, I'm back! With a new computer and new list of things that I. Am. Feeling.

1. Okay, so I'm super late on Asher Roth. I honestly just figured he was another "spur-of-the-moment" rapper ... until I heard him on "Change Gon' Come" with Charles Hamilton and B.O.B. After downloading his mixtape, "Greenhouse Effect", I am officially feeling Asher Roth's music. (thanks to 2dopeboyz.com for the link!)

2. The Award Tour lookbook. This is definitely my style of clothing.

3. Lakers are the only undefeated team in the NBA. MVP! For KB!

4. Streetlights by Kanye. I know a lot of people who aren't getting this album. I personally am, but I'm an album collector anyway. This song though, is so nice to me. Perfect for late nights thinking about that special person lol. Good luck trying to find it on the internetz. If you can't, just hit me up. I won't be posting it on the blog.

5. This interview on someone I had never heard of before.

5 Things ...

I'm feeling at the moment.

1) The new Mac commercials ...

2) Sale @ Urban Outfitter's ...
3) XXL's cover ...
but where's Drake?!

4) This idea Lizzy and I came up with a few weeks ago. I love to make random 3 minute videos ... so I want to start doing a series where you all (the readers) ask me questions, and I answer. Any question you want, Eric is providing answers. Sort of like Radio Shack, but much flyer. Just a lil' something to make WNL the best site, and get everyone involved. I was reminded by Roc's posting of our Vimeo channel. Tell me what you think!

5) time to flip the script ... what I'm NOT feeling, is from last week's episode of Heroes (i'm catching up). Hiro ... stabbed Ando.
I do like what they did with Claire though. :x

5 Things ...

I'm feeling at the moment.

1. Pandora.com - You can create your own music stations, they'll create them for you based on what you like ... overall a really nifty site.
2. Janelle Monae. Different. Beautiful. TALENTED. Listen to this. This. And this.
3. I just got the new issue of Esquire. Uhm ... self-explanatory.
4. New Macbooks. Since my last one is out for the count due to kids sitting on it amongst other things ... this is cause for celebration.
5. Wale - Ridin' In The Black Joint
